Skyrocket

Author's description: There's fireworks screen savers, and then there's Skyrocket. Technology has come a long way since the days of the Pyro! screen saver, and Skyrocket shows how far we've come by rendering fireworks in 3D. Oh, and it also has sound effects to go with the fireworks. And unlike some other fireworks screen savers, this one won't change your screen's resolution.
Our verdict: One of a set of four screensavers ported to OS X. The originals are by the amazing Terence M Welsh. Funnily enough, back in the mid-80s when we here at osxscreensavers.co.uk first experienced the Macintosh, Pyro was considered to be bleeding-edge technology. It ran on Macs with 8MHz processors and 9" black and white screens. Now, some 20 years later, the basic premise of Skyrocket hasn't changed since the Pyro days but 20 years of advances in computer technology become readily apparent. This truly excellent module brought a big smile to our faces when we first saw it, and little's changed since then! One possible gripe is that the camera angles are sometimes slightly awkward, but even that doesn't deduct points as the rest of the module is quite simply awesome.
